Chances are pretty likely that you have heard mentions of either rotary or a rotary club before. This is because they are super common, and those who are involved with a business in any sort of capacity may be involved with one. If you are not aware of what a rotary club is there is no reason to fret as we will be more than happy to go into further detail as to what exactly it is and what it entails.
A rotary club is most simply and most often defined as an international organization that helps bring together like minded business-savvy individuals to give back to their communities. It is important to note that these are clubs are not at all new and have been around for quite a while. Today we are going to take a closer look at some facts surrounding rotary and rotary clubs.
The first fact that we want to bring to your attention is that the organization operates on a global scale. There are branches of the clubs in several different countries. This means that those around the world can step up to better their communities and give back to those who need the most help.
The very first Rotary club was founded within the city of Chicago over a hundred years ago in 1905. The idea quickly caught on, and that is easy to see. Rotarians, those who are active in rotary clubs, are far more common than one would expect due to this.
Due to the overwhelming popularity and expansion of the organization, it should come as no surprise that they have undergone quite a bit of controversy within the past. One particularly controversy stands out far more than any other and that would be the gender requirements.
You see, when the organization was first started back in 1905, they strongly prohibited any women from joining the community and outright banned them from participating in any way, shape, or form.
This did eventually change, though. It took quite a bit of time, but in the 1980s progress seemed to have been made and women were finally allowed to join in on the fun. Before the women were allowed to join the coveted rotary clubs, they formed their organization know as the Inner Wheel club in which the most active participants were spouses of rotary club members.
